The film is set in the Curonian Spit - a very scenic peninsula in Lithuania, edged by the Baltic sea and a lagoon. It is a UNESCO heritage site, rich in natural resources and high-end beach resorts. But there are also thousands of cormorant birds and they kill the pine trees. The human observations and responses to this environment are as multi-layered and bizarre as the history of the forest itself. In her creative works, the director Rugile Barzdžiukaitė explores the gap between objective and imagined realities, while challenging an anthropocentric way of thinking in a playful way. In “Acid Forest” the cinematography puts audiences right into the birds’ nests and gives us their personal view of the national park.
