In February 1968, José Ferragut, the renowned architect of Mallorca, was found dead in a field. The case was closed for lack of evidence. This was one of the most sordid cases of contemporary Spanish history. A murder marked by silence, double morality, homophobia and tourist corruption. During the 50’s and 60’s the beginning of tourism changed the reality of the Mediterranean countries. Amazing landscapes were transformed for tourism exploitation. Ferragut fought against the corruption and uncontrolled development of the coast and got enemies by politics and developers. And there was more to it – he was gay in a society who criminalized and went after the homosexuals.
